Four questions for Dr Paul Bossauer

What are you working on as part of your Tandem?

My focus is on promoting concepts and practices for sustainability in mobility, particularly in rural areas. In doing so, I work at the interface between consumer informatics, human-technology interaction and shared mobility.

As part of the tandem, I would like to further develop my research profile in the field of mobility, publish academic papers and gain the necessary qualifications to apply for a professorship at a University of Applied Sciences. Furthermore, I would like to initiate new research projects, expand transdisciplinary networks and feed insights from research and practice back into teaching at the H-BRS.

What does your work at the H-BRS involve in practical terms?

One focus of my work is on securing and managing research projects. This includes developing project ideas and requests, establishing consortia and project teams, as well as coordinating and conducting scientific evaluations of mobility projects and studies.

In addition, I am involved in networking and knowledge transfer, including through publications, participation in standardisation bodies, and the organisation of exchange and networking events.

Current research questions are also directly incorporated into teaching, for example through case studies, practical projects and topics for final dissertations in the Master's degree programme in Innovation and Information Management.

How do you collaborate with Reboot Mobility GmbH?

My industry partner is Reboot Mobility GmbH, based in Blankenheim, which operates under the product brand evemo. The company develops technological solutions for sharing services such as car, bike and scooter sharing, combining software with hardware and other systems required to operate such services.

At Reboot Mobility, I am responsible for securing and managing research and development projects in the field of shared mobility. In doing so, I incorporate the company’s technical and industry-specific practical expertise into application-oriented research questions.

The Institute for Consumer Informatics serves as the key link to the H-BRS. Together, we develop project proposals and academic publications, thereby linking scientific research with specific challenges arising from real-world mobility practices.

What makes the tandem model special for you?

In the tandem, I combine research, practice and teaching with a topic that drives me personally: promoting sustainability in mobility practices through digitisation in rural areas.

It is precisely this combination of academic work, practical experience and teaching that I see as a key building block on the path to a professorship at a University of Applied Sciences.
