Department of Management Sciences
Applied learning in the Department of Management Sciences
Practice is a top priority for us. All courses are practice-orientated and include practical references. Lectures by guest lecturers from companies, business simulations, practical projects and excursions - for example to companies in the region - reinforce this practical relevance in teaching. The compulsory internship gives you the opportunity to put into practice what you have learnt during your studies and gain valuable practical experience and perhaps also get to know your future employer.
Impressions of our Management Sciences department
Internship
All Bachelor's degree programmes in the Management Sciences department include a compulsory internship, which can be replaced by a study semester abroad. The internship integrated into the 6th semester can be completed in a company/institution in Germany or internationally. If you would like to complete the internship in the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg region, you will find many well-known companies of various sizes and industries in the region. However, if you are drawn to further afield, you can also complete your internship at a company abroad. The internship must last at least 20 weeks and no longer than 27 weeks. It is a full-time job.
✅ You will receive intensive preparation and close support for the internship during your studies. Our International Office will inform you about financial support options for an internship abroad.
✅ Get to know numerous companies at our annual company day on campus and make direct contact by finding out about interesting entry opportunities for the internship or your first job.

Practical projects
Practical projects enable you to deal with real issues, for example from a company in a project team, and gain valuable experience in the business world. Practical projects, for example, which are carried out in cooperation with companies/institutions, can be integrated into individual specialisations.
💡One example of a practical project is the Tour de CSR. On this cycle tour, you will get to know various companies at home and abroad and deal with topics such as climate protection, fair working conditions and diversity.
💡The specialised knowledge is also taught through business simulations, case studies and digital presentations by graduates.

Lectures and excursions
The practical relevance is also reinforced, for example, by lectures given by company representatives on various topics in the lectures. Excursions to companies in the region also allow you to interact with companies and get to know a potential employer.
💡One special excursion is the hike "The walking lecture theatre". During the three-day tour of the region, various companies are visited and topics such as sustainability and shaping the future are discussed.

„Practical experience often counts more for employers than pure theory. The internship is the ideal opportunity to get to know the world of work and find out which area you enjoy.”
