WELCOME BATCH 2018 OF THE HBRS MBA PROGRAMME

Thursday 27 September 2018

Willkommen – Bienvenue – Binevenit – Welcom – Aaiye – Huānyíng and a very warm "Welcome" to our new students of the MBA Programme "CSR & NGO Management" of the Batch 2018.

On the 13th of September we were pleased to welcome 16 new students from 3 continents and 11 different countries at our campus in Sankt Augustin. This broad diversity of the students’ academic and professional backgrounds is one of the main characteristics of the MBA programme "CSR & NGO Management" and contributes to a unique and intercultural learning experience.

The first day for the students was filled with providing basic information about the programme and gave the group a first impression of the university processes, the MBA programme curriculum and the student lifestyle in Germany.

One of the highlights of the welcome week was the official opening at the old town hall of the city of Bonn with a pleasant reception speech by the deputy mayor of Bonn, Ms Angelica Maria Kappel. The Academic Director of the programme, Prof. Dr. Katja Bender, took also the opportunity to welcome the students personally during this festive occasion. It was followed by the speech of Ms Susanne Nolden, responsible for International Affairs at the "Bonn International", who made it to introduce the city of Bonn and its surrounding picturesque region appealingly tasty to the new students. A special "Thanks" goes to our partners od the City of Bonn, Ms. Kappel, Ms. Nolden and Mr. Hoppe for opening the doors of the Old Town Hall Bonn for our international student group on this evening. We deeply appreciate your support and the great hospitality you´ve shown to our students by offering this festive opening to our MBA Programme.

Student of batch 2017 and group representative speaker of her batch, Melissa Otero from Panama, wanted “to be part of this very special day” and felt motivated to use the festive opportunity to personally welcome our “Newbies” on the student-to-student level and by doing so, giving them a warm and motivating reception as she experienced exactly one year ago:

„"Congratulations for being part of this program, congratulations for taking the decision of doing more, and my sincerest respect because I know that, if you chose this program there is good, passion, respect for one and other, and the desire to make a change in the world that we are living in." [...]

With a very personal welcome speech and an insight about her current internship at the UN SDG Action Campaign in Bonn, Melissa´s open-minded attitude turned out to be this evening’s icebreaker for further pleasurable talks and exchanges during the Get-together afterwards. A very special surprise was the speech by David Elema, alumni of batch 2014 of the MBA programme and currently employed in the position as Commercial Project Manager EMEA for the Corporate Social Responsibility Department at Deutsche Post DHL Group in Bonn. David shared his personal story in the MBA programme and shared further valuable career steps with the new students of batch 2018.

Under best weather conditions, a barbeque on Wednesday evening gave the students the chance to meet lecturers and former students of the programme in a relaxed atmosphere. On the other days of the welcome week, the students not only were introduced to both campus sites in Rheinbach and Sankt Augustin but also were guided through all the administrative, organizational and technological requirements that are essential to overcome for a successful study time here at our University. After all the introduction sessions, campus tours and festivities, the welcome week of course continued with their first both courses “Corporate Governance” and “Introduction to Business Management”, lectures of their very first module “Basics of CSR & NGO Management” of the MBA Curriculum.

„"In the classroom you are going to find challenges, new experiences and truly good friends, I know I did. Relay in one of other and remember that you are a family fighting for the same goal."”

Since two weeks now, this new group is part of our programme and we are, again, more than happy about our selection and the opportunity to get to know these highly interesting, open- and inquisitive-minded young people.

We wish all the students of the batch 2018 a wonderful and exciting time in Bonn and a successful study experience at the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg.
