The transition from school, vocational training or work to higher education is an exciting time. We present five strategies that can help you ease into this new phase of your life.

Starting out in a new system always means that names, locations, abbreviations, customs and much more will come at you like a wave of new information in a very short amount of time. Taking in and processing all this information takes energy. This can lead to you feeling very tired at the end of the day, and sometimes irritable or anxious. These are normal reactions to significant changes in life.

It is worthwhile to establish good routines and structures for yourself right from the start. In addition to your studies, it is important to set aside time for socialising, hobbies, relaxation and exercise. A weekly schedule can help you gain orientation and keep track of your basic needs.

The first few weeks of your studies offer many opportunities to connect with fellow students. Take advantage of these opportunities, because studying together is a better experience.
