PhD Scholarship Announcement 2023

The Equal Opportunity Office, the Graduate Institute (GI) and the Departments of Computer Science, Applied Natural Sciences as well as Social Policy and Social Security Studies at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg are announcing up to six doctoral scholarships for academic staff, teaching staff for special tasks and graduates of the H-BRS. Applicants stand out due to an excellent degree, which generally entitles them to study for a PhD, are welcome to apply.

The main aim of a doctoral scholarship is to support PhDs financially in such a way that they can devote themselves primarily to their doctoral project and, in particular, complete their doctoral project within the generally envisaged standard doctoral period of 36 months. The scholarship is initially granted for 12 months. The extension of a doctoral scholarship is possible and is measured according to the respective valid guideline. A scholarship can be extended a maximum of two times, each time for a further 12 months. The maximum funding period is therefore 36 months. There is no entitlement to an extension.

Prerequisites of granting a H-BRS doctoral scholarship are the performance of research work at the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg and the supervision of the PhD work by a professor of Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg as well as the conditions set in the guidelines on granting a PhD scholarship.

A selection committee will review the scholarship applications based on scientific aspects first and social ones second. Beforehand, an interview takes place at the GI which can also be hold online. It consists of two parts and is carried out by the director of the GI. Another member of the GI takes part in the interview as well as the doctoral supervisor in the first stage, if applicable. Basis of the evaluation process are the submitted application documents as well as the personal presentation of the research project in front of the selection committee and the subsequent interview session.

until 18. September 2023 at 11:00 pm. Incomplete application documents may be excluded from the procedure. The risk of an incomplete application with the consequence that the application will not be considered further in the application procedure lies with the respective scholarship applicant. If individual documents can not be submitted or uploaded by the end of the application period, a declaration must be submitted and uploaded instead of the respective document. In particular, the declaration must state the circumstances why the respective document has not been submitted by the end of the cut-off period and when it can be submitted subsequently. The complete declaration shall then take the place of the respective application document. The respective missing documents must be uploaded to the LEA folder by the end of the last day before the respective presentation date at the latest.
