The AR/VR.nrw project aims to integrate the key technologies of augmented and virtual reality more strongly into teaching and research at universities and to improve collaboration in this area.

Since 01.09.2020, Dr Jens Maiero from Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences has been working with his team on the project "Augmented and Virtual Reality in University Teaching (ARVR.nrw)" with the aim of integrating the key technologies Augmented and Virtual Reality more strongly into teaching and research at universities and improving collaboration in this area. In order to achieve the goals set, there are many activities surrounding the project group.

For example, the team was nominated for the XR Science Award 2022 - Institute for Virtual Worlds (DIVR) and made it into the top 10 of the approximately 30 participating teams in the evaluation. The project was exhibited and presented at the DASA in Dortmund.

Interest in using AR/VR in university teaching is also growing steadily. Since the beginning of the project, more than 10 additional associated partner universities have been found that are interested in a solution. Contacts for cooperation have already been established with other universities.

The state portal ORCA.nrw, which sees itself as a service provider for the universities in NRW and offers teachers support and advice on the topic of open educational materials/OER (Open Educational Resources ), reports in its blog "Figments.nrw: Open Virtual Reality Content and Tools".

A lot has also happened on the academic side, especially in the area of evaluation of VR in teaching.  A study in the field of material sciences was published in the Journal für MedienPädagogik.

The project runs until 31.08.2023. Interested universities are welcome to contact the team.
