Delegation trips to partner universities in Brazil and Tanzania as part of the TOFI project

Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (UTFPR) in Brazil
During the visit to Brazil, the delegation, consisting of representatives from the Department of Engineering and Communication, the TREE Institute and the International Office, met with high-ranking representatives of the UTFPR. At the campus in Curitiba, an exchange took place with Rector Prof Dr Marcos Flávio de Oliveira Schiefler Filho, who welcomed the guests in German, and other representatives of the Rectorate. At the Pato Branco campus, the delegation met with Campus Director Prof. Gilson Ditzel Santos and representatives of the various degree programmes. The talks focussed on getting to know each other's universities as well as discussing how to deepen and expand the still young but active cooperation. The Formula Student programme and the discussion about co-supervision of doctoral students, for example, were of particular interest. The official talks were complemented by a colourful cultural programme: live samba music in a small pub, hospitality from the colleagues at a personal and private Brazilian BBQ and a guided tour of Pato Branco. However, the highlight at the end of the delegation's trip was a visit to the ITAIPU hydropower plant, which is operated jointly by Brazil and Paraguay and is the third largest hydropower plant in the world.

Institut of Finance Management (IFM) in Tanzania
In Tanzania, representatives from departments 01, 02, 03, 06, the IO and the Equal Opportunities Office met with Deputy Rector for Academics, Research and Consultancy Dr Faraja T Igira and the respective contact persons at the IFM in Dar es Salaam to identify new projects and ideas for collaboration. The focus was on the co-development of a new degree programme at the IFM, as well as joint digital courses and exchange opportunities for employees. In addition, a workshop of the joint (and other participating universities in Africa) DAAD project ART4Dev (Applied Research and Training for Sustainable Development in Africa), which deals with social security issues in Tanzania, was also attended.During a Kiswahili course by Dr Michael Noel Sam and a visit to the National Museum, the participants gained insights into the rich history and way of life in Tanzania.Dar es Salaam was experienced as an impressive harbour city with influences from all over the world and extremely friendly people. No less impressive were the delicious food and the beautiful sunsets by the sea.
About the TOFI projekt
In the TOFI project, H-BRS explores selected partner universities. If these show particularly strong potential for co-operation, they are developed into strategic partners across universities. In this way, H-BRS is expanding its internationalisation concept in the long term: the international competitiveness of H-BRS is increased through a broader network and the transfer opportunities become more diverse, so that exchanges take place not only in the context of teaching, but also in research or with regard to the university structure.
In addition to the delegation trips, bilateral lighthouse projects are organised to deepen cooperation in the faculty. An overview of the measures and activities that have already taken place as part of the project can be found on our website
