Setting up an EMC test environment with subsequent measurement of an active and passive EMC filter

The CombiPower research project is developing an innovative, bidirectional charging and drive unit based on SiC semiconductors and active EMC filtering. Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences has the task of designing an active filter that reduces volume, mass and costs compared to passive filters. As part of the Master's project, the students are accompanying part of this development process and realising a test environment with which the active filter can be measured in accordance with the EMC standard. This involves combining theoretical calculations, planning and practical measurements.

Short description

In the CombiPower research project, a novel, multifunctional, bidirectional charging and drive unit based on SiC semiconductors and active EMC filtering is being developed. One of H-BRS's tasks is to design an active filter that saves volume, mass and costs compared to passive filters. This involves going through the entire development process from theoretical calculation (simulation) to planning the implementation and measuring the active filter in a practical setup. The Master's project offers students the opportunity to accompany part of this development process. The aim of the Master's project is to realise a test environment that makes it possible to measure the active filter in accordance with the EMC standard.

Project phases

Master's project 1: In Master's project 1, the student will first familiarise themselves with the EMC standards and plan an implementation concept for the test environment.

Master project 2: The implementation of the concept for realising the test environment will be part of master project 2, as well as learning how to use the measuring devices.

Master thesis: The master thesis includes the practical measurement of a passive and active EMC filter with subsequent evaluation of the measurement results.
