About us

IZNE Leitung
The International Center for Sustainable Development (IZNE) was founded in April 2011 as a scientific institution. The centre is committed to sustainable development and responsible social action, with its teaching, research and transfer activities firmly grounded on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The institute is practice-oriented and as such aims to initiate or support sustainable reform, innovation and transformation processes.

Approach

The IZNE is organised on a cross-university basis. In the areas of teaching, research and consultancy, it follows a practice- and company-oriented approach in cooperation with its internal and external partners. The aim is to create a real workshop, a place where knowledge is generated for reform, innovation and change processes.

Our View on Sustainability

The IZNE understand sustainability to be a long-term and sustainable development that is multi-dimensional and encompassing. It integrates economic, ecologic, and social questions, and aims at intra- and intergenerational justice with international reach. Strategies for sustainability are implemented on local, regional, national, and global level.

IZNE is a member of the German Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN Germany) and thus helps to promote sustainable development in Germany and German commitment to sustainable development worldwide.

Doctoral students

Doctoral research which is undertaken by IZNE staff members and/or supervised by IZNE professors is conducted in cooperation with a partner university, thus complying with the current legal regulations. Depending on the status of the doctoral student, the actual research work is either carried out at H-BRS or at a partner university.
