Communications and Marketing
Major research show at H-BRS - Friday, 9 May 2025, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m
The research exhibition will take place in the central A building and neighbouring laboratories. Research institutes and all five departments of the university (Management Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering and Communication, Department of Natural Sciences, Social Policy and Social Security) will be taking part. Visitors will not only have the opportunity to interact with researchers at the stands, but there will also be guided tours of the labs and open labs. The university's service units will also be presenting themselves, from the Alumni Office to the Centre for Science and Technology Transfer.
Biomedical research, AI and many other topics
H-BRS researchers will be providing information about the interdisciplinary DFG project "CytoTransport - Mechanisms and Modulation of Cellular Transport Processes", for example. When transport processes in cells do not function properly, this often results in diseases such as metabolic disorders, high blood pressure, kidney and lung damage or inflammation. A team of scientists at the university is investigating the underlying processes. A better understanding of the processes is a prerequisite for developing new therapeutic strategies.
The future topics of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems are a research focus at H-BRS. Research, teaching and transfer in this area are bundled in the Institute for AI and Autonomous Systems (A2S). The "Centre for Assistive Technologies (ZAT) Rhine-Ruhr" project will take centre stage at the A2S stand. This project focuses on the question of how digital cognitive assistance systems can be customised and proactively adapted to people's needs. The researchers are bringing several robots with them to present their work in a very practical way.
Saving resources and using recycled plastic
Visitors can also play an interactive game about password security or talk to researchers about the life cycle analysis of an old coffee machine. They can find out about insect research with citizen participation and observe how a miniature blow moulding machine produces plastic containers from a plastic tube at the touch of a button. The background to the demonstration of this mass production process is that research at H-BRS is focussing on saving resources and using recycled plastic. Another project at the Institute for Technology, Resource and Energy Efficiency (TREE) is focussing on the development and practical testing of new technologies for self-sufficient energy generation and energy storage using green hydrogen.
H-BRS was founded in 1995 as part of the Berlin-Bonn equalisation scheme
The Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg was founded in 1995 as part of the Berlin-Bonn equalisation scheme. Today, it is an integral part of the region's educational landscape. It stands for practical training and close networking with local partners. It has locations in Sankt Augustin, Rheinbach and Hennef. In Bonn, it operates the Bonn-Aachen International Centre for Information Technology together with the University and RWTH Aachen University. The university offers around 40 degree programmes, with a total of 9,000 students enrolled in the winter semester 2024/2025. Only recently, H-BRS achieved first place in a study on the satisfaction of graduates. The study was conducted by the Institute for Applied Statistics (ISTAT) on behalf of the NRW Ministry of Science. H-BRS is a research-intensive university with a total of 18 institutes. To date, 87 doctorates have been successfully completed here. Currently 116 doctorates are being supervised. H-BRS's research focuses include security research, resource and energy efficiency, visual computing, life sciences and health as well as AI and autonomous systems.
