Department of Engineering and Communication
Studying internationally in the Department of Engineering and Communication
At our university, international experience is a key part of what we offer. You’ll learn languages, work on joint projects with students from all over the world, or spend your work placement semester at a company abroad.
English courses at the Language Centre
English is a compulsory subject in almost all German-language bachelor’s degree programmes at H-BRS and, given its importance as the language of instruction, the language of academic literature and the common language of communication, is also an essential prerequisite for successful study.
Work placement abroad
You can also complete your practical placement abroad – either as an internship or as a semester abroad at a university.
International Engineer
The ‘International Engineer’ is a certificate for degree programmes in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Sustainable Engineering, which can be completed alongside one’s degree. This additional qualification enables students to acquire important intercultural skills and supplementary language skills, thereby improving their chances of securing a job abroad or with international companies.
International Media Expert
The ‘International Media Expert’ is a certificate available to students on the Digital Journalism and Technology and Visual Technical Communication degree programmes, which can be completed alongside their studies. This additional qualification enables students to acquire important intercultural skills and advanced language proficiency. This facilitates research abroad and improves their chances of securing a job with international media organisations or large companies.
Seminars for international students
The IWK Department offers seminars in English for international students, and for those who wish to immerse themselves in the German language, we also offer German courses accompanied by self-study materials in English. Although these courses are taught in German, they are designed to be accessible to non-German speakers as well.
