Autonomous Systems (MSc)
FAQ: Autonomous Systems (M.Sc.)
Questions about the degree programme
Does the course content relate exclusively to robotics?
The degree programme covers all aspects necessary for programming, building, designing, using and deploying robots. The modules cover topics in the fields of embedded systems, machine learning, localisation and navigation, neural networks, sensor technology and the reliability of embedded systems. Many of these topics, like robotics itself, are interdisciplinary and find application in many other fields. Most of the examples and practical courses relate to robotics, such as in the RoboCup: designing a filter to reliably understand human voice commands.

Questions about applications/ admission
What can I do if my IELTS/TOEFL score is below the minimum requirement?
You may retake the IELTS/ TOEFL test and apply within the application perion with a confirmation of registration to a new test taking place in the near future. Enrolment is only possible if you have achieved the required test result.
Will the dMAT score from the APS India be considered during the evaluation process?(Applicants with degrees from India)
No, the dMAT score from the APS India will not be considered during the evaluation process.
The requirements state that an internship contract with the Fraunhofer Institute is required. Do I need to apply separately for this internship?
No, the application for the study place includes a request for an internship.
How and when will I be informed about admission? (Non-EU applicants)
If you are admitted, you will receive an email confirming your admission and providing further information. All non-European applicants will receive confirmation of admission no later than 4 months after the application deadline. Please do not call or email to enquire about the status of your application before the deadline.
Can I receive confirmation of admission before the 4-month deadline? (Non-EU applicants)
Yes, this is possible. You will be informed as soon as the application process has been completed and the decisions have been made. Always follow the status of your application in the application portal.
How do I know if I have to take additional courses?
The letter of admission will list exactly which additional courses must be taken and the number of ECTS credit points required. These credits do not count towards the Autonomous Systems (M.Sc.) degree programme, but are used for basic education.
Regardless of this, you should be on campus no later than three weeks before the start of the lecture period in order to be able to attend the Foundations Course as well as formal and informal introductory events. Lectures usually begin at the end of March in the Summer semester and at the end of September in the Winter semester.
My letter of rejection states that I have not been offered an internship.
In this case, the number of qualified applicants is higher than the number of internships available for the semester. If you are still interested in a place, please apply in the following semester. However, no study place can be guaranteed even then.
What do I need to bear in mind after admission?
- Start looking for a flat as early as possible.
- Check whether you need a visa and, if necessary, apply for it well in advance.
- We’ll send you a welcome pack with useful information to help you plan your move.
