Voluntary Social Year in Science, Technology and Sustainability (FJN)
Participants in the Volunteer Year in Science, Technology, and Sustainability (FJN) can both assist with library activities and contribute to their own learning and development opportunities at the library of the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences.
Tasks and areas of activity for volunteers (FJN) at the University and District Library
Individual projects
- Developing an app-based library scavenger hunt
- Social media campaign for the library
- Improving accessibility in the library
- Silent-Monitoring-System: testing and evaluating noise levels in various library areas and making suggestions for improving quiet zones
Support for events & projects
- Assisting with guided tours & training sessions
- Organizing exhibitions: researching topics, designing posters, setting up displays
- Social media & public relations: creating content for the library website or social media channels
Support with daily library operations
- Assisting with the registration of new users
- Customer service: helping users navigate the library, answerig inquiries
- Organizational tasks: sorting books, arrabging shelves, checking inventory
Digital and technical tasks
- Maintaining and further developing internal information platforms
- Digitizing media: scanning documents, assisting with long-term digital archiving
- Technical support: assisting with the maintenance of computers, printers, and databases
Depending on their interests and skills, volunteers can also choose their own areas of focus and contribute their own ideas.
The volunteer program can be completed at the Sankt Augustin location as well as at the Rheinbach location.
