Modul "Advanced English Academic Writing Skills"

Prerequisites: Participants should fulfil the following criteria:

  • Have participated in the basic English Academic Writing Skills workshop at H-BRS and
  • have written or nearly completed an English-language paper for an international journal or scientific conference.

Description:

The coaching will consist of workshops, participant texts (with peer review) and individual coaching sessions.

  • An introductory three-hour workshop explaining the peer-review process and the structure of the workshop series.
  • The participants send their academic text to the coach (Anne Wegner) and to all the other participants (peer review).
  • A 3-hour workshop will be conducted for each paper (number of workshops depends on number of participants). At the workshops the individual texts will be reviewed and commented on.
  • After the workshop, the participants can correct/improve their own texts and send them to the coach for final proofreading.
  • Individual coaching sessions are provided for the participants.

The aim of the coaching series is

  • To improve the students ability to peer review the written English of others
  • To improve the participants written academic English
  • To improve the participants ability to identify well-written academic English.

Following the coaching series the participants will have

  • Improved their ability to peer review the English in academic texts
  • More confidence in their ability to write good academic English

An English academic text suitable for admission to a journal or conference proceedings.
