RedRockets from H-BRS "Capture the Flag"

A group of students from the Department of Computer Science at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg got together just a few months ago to form the RedRocket team. Their passion is hacking websites, whereby they primarily pursue their hobby at international competitions, so-called Capture-the-Flag (CTF) events. Last weekend, H-BRS hackers won the competition that took place in parallel to the AppSec Europe security conference in London.

Only ten student teams were allowed to enter the OWASP AppSec Europe 2018 University Challenge where, the team, which included (above, from left to right) Ruben Gonzalez, Felix Fröhling, Lukas Schauer, Fabian Hafner, Konstantin Wurster and Jakob Berger score a massive 240 points, firmly putting the runner ups from Cardiff University in their place, who scored 90 points.

Second Place in Stockholm in June

The RedRockets had already achieved international success in June when, having qualified for the final of the MidnightSun CTF at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, they took a convincing second place after the favourites from the University of Warsaw.
