DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) - Language Certificate

The DAAD language certificate serves as proof of your language skills and is required for scholarships, studies abroad or internships abroad together with the other application documents.

The examination required for the issue of the certificate comprises a written and an oral part and tests the existing knowledge and skills in the areas of listening comprehension, reading comprehension and written and oral expression.
The oral part of the examination consists of a short subject-related examination interview or presentation; in the written part, you will be asked questions on listening and reading comprehension and must write a short subject-related essay. The form of this examination is similar to the Cambridge Assessment (First Certificate, Advanced et cetera). Examination dates

You can register for an examination date via LEA. The test will take place if there are at least two registrations; in case of unexcused absence, you will be barred from taking part in further tests. Since the test fee is paid for by the department, only one test can be booked each term.

The exam is offered exclusively to students of the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences who are planning a stay abroad as part of their studies or who are applying for a scholarship. Students can register for an exam date for English in Sankt Augustin or Rheinbach via LEA; the examination takes place when there are at least two registrations.

The costs for the exam are borne by the respective departments - the exams are therefore free of charge for Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University students. Students are not allowed to take the exam more than once per semester. Students who are registered for an examination and are absent without excuse will be excluded from the following examinations for the remainder of the semester.

Students who do not register in time for one of the regularly offered test dates can also take an examination for the issue of the language certificate at other institutions for a fee.
