Alumnus R. Gieler as guest with the topic IT security
Alumnus Roland Gieler was a guest in the IT Service Management lecture at the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, University of Applied Sciences and was able to give the students insights into the workings of a globally active company with a lecture on the topic of IT security.

Petra Haferkorn ist neue Professorin
Die Mathematikerin Petra Haferkorn lehrt jetzt im Studiengang Cyber Security & Privacy am Fachbereich Informatik. Schwerpunkt der neuen Professorin ist die Frage, wie Unternehmen und öffentliche Einrichtungen ihre Informationssicherheit in der Praxis wirksam umsetzen können. Dass sie nach ihrem Studium in der Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht landete und nun mit einer 25-jährigen Expertise im Bereich der Informationssicherheit an die Hochschule wechselt, hat auch mit einem berühmten Finanzskandal aus den 1990er-Jahren zu tun.

Usability-Tests on Mixed Reality at drummer's focus Köln
Students from the Visual Computing & Games Technology (MVG) Master's programme at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, University of Applied Sciences, are working on a semester-long practical project with mixed reality environments in cooperation with the drum school "drummer's focus Köln".

Opening hours over the public holidays
Die Hochschule schließt zwischen Weihnachten und Neujahr. Ab dem 02. Januar werden die Türen wieder geöffnet. Die Vorlesungen beginnen aber erst eine Woche später, also ab dem 09..01.2022. Der Fachbereich Informatik wünscht allen eine schöne Weihnachtszeit und einen guten Rutsch in das Neue Jahr!

Alexander Marquardt presents his paper at SIGGRAPH Asia 2022 in Daegu, South Korea
On 08.12.2022 Alexander Marquardt, researcher in the Institute of Visual Computing & Games Technology at H-BRS, had the honour to present his paper on "Multisensory Proximity and Transition Cues for Improving Target Awareness in Narrow Field of View Augmented Reality Displays" at SIGGRAPH ASIA 2022 in Daegu, South Korea.

Multi-sensory feedback for 3D User Interfaces
In his talk, Kruijff gave an overview of his recent research on the design, development and validation of multisensory 3D user interfaces. Among other things, the research aims to overcome the limitations of augmented reality displays with a narrow field of view by introducing audio-tactile cues to guide the user's attention. Kruijff also presented research results in 3D navigation techniques for virtual reality and robotics. The visit took place in the course of existing and future collaboration in the context of dissertation supervision and funded projects.

Dr Michael Rademacher - an expert in network technologies
As a research assistant at the H-BRS, Rademacher conducted research in the areas of Design of secure IoT communication, security and privacy for blockchain applications, radio network planning/simulation in wireless backhaul networks (dissertation) and was project manager SDN4Wireless (networking/security of digital systems). Parallel to his work at the H-BRS, he heads the research group "Secure Mobile Communication" at Fraunhofer FKIE in Bonn. His research group deals with topics such as the construction and operation of secure smart city networks (LoRa), security vulnerabilities in mobile communication networks (4G, 5G) and secure communication for digital and distributed energy. He also coordinates the joint training activities between the university and Fraunhofer in the cyber security learning laboratory (Fraunhofer Academy). The Department of Computer Science is pleased to have been able to successfully fill the substitute professorship of network security with the scientist Michael Rademacher. We wish him all the best for his new tasks!

"I am a b-it proud" – b-it turns 20
The joint research institute of the University of Bonn, RWTH Aachen University and Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, the Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology (b-it), has turned 20 years old. Members of the scientific advisory board and employees of the foundation, former rectors, friends and supporters, professors, students and alumni were invited to the anniversary celebration at the institute in Bonn, and Dame Wendy Hall was the guest of honour.

Die Gruppe WISE – Women in Cyber Security – ist ein Netzwerk für junge Frauen aus dem Studiengang Cyber Security und Privacy sowie Informatikstudentinnen, die Interesse an IT-Sicherheit haben. Am 28.10.22 ging es das erste Mal gemeinsam auf Exkursion:

Forscher der Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg für ihre Arbeit zu mehr Sicherheit im Internet ausgezeichnet
Der Stifterverband hat Professor Luigi Lo Iacono und Stephan Wiefling von der Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS) mit dem Open Data Impact Award 2022 ausgezeichnet. Die beiden Wissenschaftler haben einen Datensatz zur freien Verfügung gestellt, mit dessen Hilfe sich die Sicherheit von Internetkonten verbessern lässt. Software-Entwickler erhalten damit Zugang zu wertvollen Daten, über die bisher nur wenige sehr große Internetkonzerne verfügten.
