Inter- and transdisciplinary research

IZNE Zusammenarbeit Verantwortung

The research area at a glance

Inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation in the field of sustainability is characterised by close links between different disciplines, including environmental sciences, economics, sociology and technology. The interdisciplinary teams at the International Centre for Sustainable Development (ZNE) bring together experts with diverse backgrounds to jointly tackle complex challenges such as climate change, resource management and social justice and to optimise cooperation.

Innovative solutions for sustainable development

Through the interdisciplinary approach, different perspectives and competences are used to develop innovative solutions for sustainable development that take equal account of ecological, economic and social aspects. Collaboration between IZNE scientists, practitioners and decision-makers promotes a holistic approach, relying on open dialogue and continuous knowledge exchange to drive the development and implementation of sustainable measures and bring about positive change in society and the environment.

Research into collaboration

Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research not only looks for solutions within projects, but also examines collaboration itself: What are the success factors, challenges and preferences among those involved? How can funding approaches be designed even better? And what effects does the integration of science and practice have on the quality and implementation of projects? These findings help to improve interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary processes in a targeted manner.
