Sebastian Franken new Professor of Biology
Since September 2024, Dr Sebastian Franken has been teaching and researching as the new Professor of Biology at the Department of Natural Sciences at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg in Rheinbach. The professorship focuses on molecular drug research.

GameJam 2024: Elastic heroes and creative masterpieces
The second GameJam recently took place at the Institute of Visual Computing (IVC) at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, organised by Jannik Brockerhoff. Over the course of three days, participants took on the challenge of developing games on the theme of "Rubber". The event, which ran from 15 to 18 August, attracted both individuals and teams who wanted to put their creative skills to the test.

Die Lesereihe „Zu Gast auf dem Sofa“ der Hochschul- und Kreisbibliothek Bonn-Rhein-Sieg ist im kulturellen Angebot der Region seit mehr als 20 Jahren eine etablierte Größe. Für den Herbst hat die Bibliothek wieder namhafte Autorinnen und Autoren mit herausragenden Büchern nach Sankt Augustin und Rheinbach eingeladen.

RoboCup World Cup 2024: b-it-bots take third place and receive open source award
The H-BRS b-it-bots team from the Department of Computer Science achieved an impressive third place in the RoboCup@Work League at this year's world championship in Eindhoven/Netherlands, despite problems with the hardware, and was also honoured with the Open Source Award.

New impulses for sustainability: Professor Helmsmüller joins the Directorate of the IZNE
Prof. Dr Simona Helmsmüller has been teaching at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS) in the department of Social Policy and Social Security Studies with a focus on the Economics of Social Protection since 2019. She joined the International Centre for Sustainable Development (IZNE) in the winter semester 2024/25 as the fifth member of the directorate. We spoke to her about her new role, her experiences and goals, and what sustainable development means to her.

Science meets metal festival: H-BRS researchers were in action at the Summerbreeze Open Air. They set up an independent communication network for the Malteser emergency services, enabling the paramedics to communicate with each other and with the incident command.

Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of Malawi, met with representatives of the Malawian diaspora in Germany during a state visit to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin at the end of August. Among them: H-BRS doctoral student Allex Semba.

Jährliches IVC-Strategiemeeting: Weichenstellung für die Zukunft
Am 2. und 3. September 2024 fand bereits zum achten Mal das Strategiemeeting des Instituts für Visual Computing (IVC) der H-BRS statt. 23 Mitarbeiter des Instituts nutzten die Gelegenheit, um gemeinsam auf das vergangene Jahr zurückzublicken, aktuelle Herausforderungen zu analysieren und neue strategische Ziele zu formulieren.
