Research at the university

Themenbild Forschung
Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg is a university with a strong research profile. Scientists at a total of 17 institutes conduct research at the highest level, with topics ranging from detection technologies to genetics and sustainable development to visual computing. In total, the H-BRS is active in more than 60 research fields. Our focus is on the topics of sustainability, digitalisation and security. Thanks to numerous cooperations with regional and transregional business and industry as well as with research institutions, the researchers at H-BRS are very well connected.

The DFG-funded research cluster CytoTransport combines expertise in biomedicine, computational modeling, structural biology, chemistry and materials science to investigate cellular transport mechanisms in health and disease. To this end, nine working groups from two university research focus areas are working together.

Research focus areas

In dialog with society, politics and companies, researchers are solving pressing issues of our time, whether it is the success of the energy transition, the prevention of terrorist and explosive attacks or human genetics. Research focuses on security research, sustainability, resource conservation and energy efficiency, visual computing, life sciences and health, cytotransport and AI and autonomous systems.

Young academics and doctorates

The Graduate Institute (GI) plays an important role in research at H-BRS: it was founded in 2010 to support doctoral students who are primarily working in research at H-BRS in their doctoral projects and to ensure quality assurance with the help of qualification programs. By summer 2022, 63 cooperative doctoral projects had been successfully completed at H-BRS. At that time, 119 cooperative doctoral projects were in progress.
