Diskurs in Zeiten der Polarisierung - Podiumsdiskussion vom Forum Sozialversicherungswissenschaft und der Bonner Akademie
Am 13. November 2024 veranstalteten das Forum Sozialversicherungswissenschaft e.V. und die Bonner Akademie für Forschung und Lehre praktischer Politik (BAPP) eine Podiumsdiskussion unter dem Titel „Ist das (noch) Meinung oder kann das weg? Diskurs in Zeiten der Polarisierung.“ Unter der Moderation von Prof. Dr. Michael Heister, Vorsitzender des Forums und Abteilungsleiter beim Bundesinstitut für Berufsbildung, diskutierten vier Fachleute vor über 120 Teilnehmenden über die zunehmende Spaltung der Gesellschaft, die Grenzen der Meinungsfreiheit und die Herausforderungen für den demokratischen Diskurs.

PhD Project Exhibition and PK NRW Doctoral Seminars in Sankt Augustin
On 8 November, the Graduate Institute of the H-BRS organised a doctoral seminar and poster exhibition in cooperation with three departments of the PK NRW (Informatics and Data Science, Technology and Systems and Resources and Sustainability). Doctoral students from all over NRW and their supervisors took the opportunity to network throughout the day at the Sankt Augustin campus.

Workshop with lecturers from Africa - Education for sustainable development in practice
As part of the ART4Dev project - Applied Research and Teaching for Sustainable Development in Africa - Professor Wiltrud Terlau and research assistant Silvia Berenice Fischer held a workshop on education for sustainable development. This workshop was attended by 17 lecturers from Kenya, Ghana and Tanzania.

Roberta Hodel: Anyone and everyone can learn maths
Roberta Hodel already had a talent for maths at primary school. Today, she passes on her enthusiasm for the subject to students in the IWK department. The fact that her career path led her to the university also has to do with a less than perfect exam.

Halloween special: IVC students provide a spooky gaming evening
On 31 October, the Game Studio of the Department of Information Technology and Institute of Visual Computing (IVC) at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences was transformed into a ghoulishly fun gaming oasis. People gambled, ate pizza and celebrated the Halloween spirit - inspired by the popular "Zock´n Friday". An evening full of fun and goosebumps that calls for repetition!

1st place for Natalia Quiroga Perez at the AFCEA Bonn e.V. study award ceremony
Since 2008, the AFCEA Bonn e.V. has awarded annual study prizes to promote the scientific qualification of young talents. Prizes are awarded for outstanding theses in the fields of applied computer science, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, automatic speech processing, communications engineering, radar technology, automation technology and robotics. This year, the first prize of 6,000 euros went to Natalia Quiroga Perez from Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS). The prize is endowed with a total of 20,000 euros and was presented on 24 October 2024 at the IT conference in Koblenz.
