Programme content and qualification objective
Study plan
The degree programme lasts six semesters and includes a three-month practical phase in the sixth semester. Scientific fundamentals - in addition to content from biology, for example, in mathematics, statistics and physics - form the theoretical foundation of the degree programme. Throughout their degree programme, students learn about practical work in the laboratory in internships. Internationality is very important to us: We maintain co-operations with partner universities all over the world, where students can spend one or more semesters abroad. Students can also set individual specialisations through elective subjects ranging from biotechnology to clinical research.
Prospects and job opportunities
Our scientifically sound and practice-orientated education opens up a wide range of career opportunities for students in industry, administration, business or research and development. Building on the Bachelor's degree programme, the university offers the English-language Master's degree programme Biomedical Sciences (MSc). A doctorate is also possible at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences after completing the Master's degree programme.
Practical relevance and teaching formats
Independent practical work takes up a large part of the degree programme. Students learn how to conduct experiments as well as how to critically interpret the data obtained. They work with modern equipment that is also used in everyday biomedical research. They are also trained to work cooperatively and reliably, to take responsibility in a team and to communicate results clearly. The three-month practical phase in the sixth semester can also be completed abroad.
Study location and learning environment
The Rheinbach campus is located in North Rhine-Westphalia and is easy to reach by public transport from Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf or Koblenz. Manageable group sizes and a balanced student-faculty ratio are the basis for a pleasant learning and working atmosphere. Our students learn and conduct research in modern laboratories in the fields of fluorescence-based flow cytometry (FACS), PCR applications and antibody-based detection methods (ELISA)
