Programme content and qualification objective
Study programme
Our cooperative study programme is a training path that combines vocational training and study. The duration of the cooperative Bachelor's degree programme in Electrical Engineering is nine semesters. In the first two semesters, students complete practical vocational training in a company. The content of the seven semesters (3rd-9th) corresponds to the regular B.Eng. Electrical Engineering. Students choose a specialisation in automation technology or electronic systems and work on practice-oriented projects on topics such as e-mobility, energy and sustainability. The practical semester and the Bachelor's thesis are completed in the company.
Prospects and job prospects
Automation characterises transport, vehicle construction and many industries. Graduates of the BEng Electrical Engineering can work in the development, production and operation of electronic systems. They design control systems, programme embedded software and implement sustainable solutions. Typical industries are the automotive industry or energy and environmental technology. Building on this, H-BRS offers three Master's programmes: Electrical Engineering (M.Eng.), Mechanical Engineering (M.Eng.) and Sustainable Engineering Science (M.Eng.).
Practical relevance and teaching formats
The cooperative degree programme combines practical teaching with vocational training. In order to transfer what has been learned directly into application, the degree programme includes:
- laboratory internships in which, for example, physical principles are tested and materials are examined.
- three project weeks per semester, which alternate with four weeks of lectures (our award-winning four-in-one model).
- a practical semester in Germany or abroad, which takes place in the cooperating company.
- a final thesis, which is written with the cooperating company.
Study location and learning environment
The city of Sankt Augustin with the university campus borders the city of Bonn to the north-east. The state university is easy to reach by public transport from Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf or Koblenz. The campus is modern and the classrooms, laboratories, workshops and library are excellently equipped. Small study groups facilitate good contact with other students and lecturers. The university is also well connected internationally and cooperates with around 90 foreign universities in more than 40 countries
