Course content and qualification objectives
Course structure
In the foundation year (1st and 2nd semesters), students learn the basics of their subject. This is supplemented by basic knowledge of application-oriented engineering software and English.
In the profile year (3rd and 4th semesters), students specialise in:Mechatronics or Product Development. Parallel to this, there are further modules and practice-oriented projects.
The focus year (6th and 7th semesters) follows the practical semester in a company or alternatively a semester abroad (5th semester). The programme concludes with a practice-oriented Bachelor's thesis in the 7th semester and a colloquium.
Prospects and job opportunities
Whether it's the automotive industry, the energy sector or plant engineering: mechanical engineering forms the basis for many industries. They are also in demand for the construction of photovoltaic or wind power plants. In their future jobs, graduates develop and design machines and systems, simulate and optimise systems, use modern CAD and CAE tools and take on tasks in production engineering, quality assurance or project management.
Building on this, H-BRS offers the Master's degree programmes Mechanical Engineering (M.Eng.), Electrical Engineering (M.Eng.) and Sustainable Engineering Science (M.Eng.).
Practical relevance and teaching formats
An essential part of an engineering degree programme at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences is to apply the knowledge acquired in a practical and solution-oriented manner:
- in laboratory practicals in which, for example, physical principles are tested and materials are examined.
- during the three project weeks per semester, which offer the opportunity to work on projects in small teams.
- during an internship semester in Germany or abroad, during which students gain their first work experience.
- in the final thesis, which can be written in cooperation with companies or research institutes.
Study location and learning environment
The city of Sankt Augustin with the university campus borders the city of Bonn to the north-east. The state university is easy to reach by public transport from Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf or Koblenz. The campus is modern and the classrooms, laboratories, workshops and library are excellently equipped. Small study groups enable good contact with other students and lecturers. The university is well networked and cooperates with around 90 foreign universities in more than 40 countries.
„Thanks to ingenious projects sponsored by Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, such as our Formula Student Team, as a mechanical engineering student I always have the opportunity to put the theory I've learnt in the lecture hall into practice. This allows me to develop as an engineer in a dynamic working environment during my studies, even outside of exams.”
