Programme content and qualification objective
Course of study
In the first two semesters, students complete practical vocational training in a company. The on-campus study programme begins in the third semester. The content of the seven semesters (3rd-9th) corresponds to the first to seventh semesters of the regular BEng Mechanical Engineering programme. You choose from the specialisations in mechatronics or product development and work on practice-oriented topics such as design engineering, materials, electrical drives or production engineering. They complete the practical semester and the Bachelor's thesis in the company.
Prospects and job opportunities
Whether in the automotive industry, energy sector or plant engineering: mechanical engineering forms the basis for many industries. Trained engineers are also in demand for the construction of photovoltaic or wind power plants. They develop and design machines and systems, simulate and optimise systems, use modern CAD and CAE tools and take on tasks in production technology, quality assurance or project management
Building on this, H-BRS offers the Master's degree programmes Mechanical Engineering (MEng), Electrical Engineering (MEng) and Sustainable Engineering Science (MEng).
Practical relevance and teaching formats
An essential part of an engineering degree programme at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg is to apply the knowledge acquired in a practical and solution-oriented manner:
- in laboratory practicals in which, for example, physical principles are tested and materials are examined.
- during the three project weeks per semester, which offer the opportunity to work on projects in small teams.
- during an internship semester in Germany or abroad, during which students gain their first work experience.
- in the final thesis, which can be written in cooperation with companies or research institutes.
Study location and learning environment
The city of Sankt Augustin with the university campus borders the city of Bonn to the north-east. The state university is easy to reach by public transport from Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf or Koblenz. The campus is modern and the classrooms, laboratories, workshops and library are excellently equipped. Small study groups enable good contact with other students and lecturers. The university is well networked and cooperates with around 90 foreign universities in more than 40 countries.
