Graduate Johann Zürner and Prof Hannes Tschofenig speak at the RIOT Summit 2025 in Dresden
The annual meeting of the RIOT community took place from 3 to 5 September with the aim of exchanging developments, experiences, design ideas and new technologies. H-BRS was represented by Hannes Tschofenig, Professor of Computer Science, in particular Network Security, and Johannes Zürner, who recently completed his bachelor’s thesis on secure and efficient communication in low-resource mobile IoT networks.

Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences is making its strength in games technologies visible worldwide by participating in the Tokyo Game Show 2025. The focus is on research projects, study programmes and the student puzzle adventure game "Honu". At the same time, the Institute for Visual Computing is strengthening its international presence and intensifying its cooperation with universities, studios and technology companies.

H-BRS presents research diversity and study programs at Gamescom 2025
Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences was represented at Gamescom 2025 by the Institute for Visual Computing (IVC) and the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering and Communication (IWK). In front of a sensational 357,000 visitors, H-BRS presented its wide range of research, from virtual reality and game development to educational games and robotics, and showed how closely research, teaching and the social relevance of games are linked.

It's all in the mix: Julian Rech completed his doctorate on the development of durable plastic composites
Plastic composites are team players: only the right combination of fibres or particles makes them stable, versatile and durable. The decisive factor here is the interaction at the invisible boundary between the plastic and the filler - it determines whether the material breaks or holds. Mathematical models and experiments were combined in this doctoral thesis in order to better understand and predict this interaction. This resulted in a method that can be used to develop new materials faster and more cost-effectively.

Writing time 3.0 on the "Magic Mountain"
For the third time, the "Zauberberg" (Magic Mountain) in Gummersbach was transformed into a place of focussed writing, exchange and inspiration. Eleven motivated students spent three intensive days at the Theodor Heuss Academy under the guidance of writing consultants Jill Yates and Katrin Berentzen, working in English or German on their final papers, from bachelor's theses to dissertations.
