Programme content and qualification objective
Course of study
During the six-semester programme, students learn about current approaches to sustainability in chemistry and materials science. Electives in the fields of chemistry, materials science or sustainability, as well as computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or economics allow them to set individual specialisations. A stay abroad is possible in the fifth semester or in the practical semester, which can be completed in a company, a research institution or a university institute. Courses in the fields of business administration, management, law and occupational safety round off the academic programme.
Prospects and job opportunities
Graduates can work on a sustainable future in the areas of research and development in the chemical industry or chemical-related sectors. In addition, they are welcome in pharmaceutical chemistry and the environmental sector, but also in research institutions, offices and authorities due to their diverse and in-depth knowledge and expertise.
Building on the Bachelor's degree programme, there is the opportunity to study the German-language Master's degree programme Analytical Chemistry and Quality Assurance (M.Sc.) or the English-language Master's degree programme Materials Science and Sustainability Methods (M.Sc.).
Practical relevance and teaching formats
The lecturers have many years of practical experience. Many of them are also actively involved in research projects. For example, researchers are working on producing packaging from sustainable raw materials instead of petroleum or developing new processes for drinking water treatment. The degree programme includes a three-month practical phase at a company, research institution or university institute.
Study location and learning environment
The Rheinbach campus is located in North Rhine-Westphalia and is easy to reach by public transport from Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf or Koblenz. Study and research with us on a modern and manageable campus with excellently equipped laboratories. Small study groups enable good contact with other students and lecturers with practical experience
„I chose this degree programme because I am interested in making a contribution to sustainability in the chemical and/or materials processing industry. I particularly like the practical focus in the lab and the unique combination of chemistry and materials science. What makes this degree programme even better is the family atmosphere and the fact that we support each other and are there for each other. This makes learning even more fun.”
Nadia Ausoni - Student
„She is my Swiss army knife. She can do anything or find out how to do it.”
Cyprian Golebiewski - Head of Application Technology at Akro-Plastic in Niederzissen on graduate Kathrin Portugall, who finds solutions to technical problems at the plastics refiner.
