Information for first-semester students
On the Student Advice Centre’s overview page, you’ll find information about the semester ticket and student ID card, the dates for the welcome events for first-semester students for each degree programme, preparatory courses and much more.
At the start of the new academic year, we will be extending a warm welcome to our first semester students at our university on Monday, 28 September 2026, at the Sankt Augustin campus. Before and after the central welcome event for first semester students, the ‘Market of Opportunities’ will take place on Hochschulstraße.
Successful completion of one or more language courses is compulsory for our bachelor's degree programmes. As these are usually English courses, students must sit an English placement test at the start of their studies.
In the library, students will find an extensive and informative collection of resources, both digital and in print. A dedicated team is on hand to help them find information for their assignments and projects. In addition, the library offers workshops and training sessions on a wide range of topics.
Email, SIS, LEA and Wi-Fi
After self-registering via the MIA portal, new students gain access to the central email server for students and are provided with their faculty code for registration in the Student Information System (SIS) and the e-learning system LEA.

Student bodies
Students at the university organise themselves into departmental student councils, the Student Parliament (StuPa) – the highest decision-making body – and the general students' committee (AStA), the executive body representing the entire Student Body.
Studying and Accommodation
The student union not only provides accommodation, but also runs the dining halls and cafeterias in Rheinbach and Sankt Augustin. The student ID card serves as a travel ticket within the VRS area, a library card and a chip card for the dining hall and for using photocopiers.
