In the HyLeiT joint project, research is being conducted into a new generation of electrolysis converters and electrical system technology for the energy supply of hydrogen electrolysis. The aim is to halve the system costs of electrical engineering from the grid connection point to the DC connection at the electrolyzer, taking into account associated operating costs and effects on H2 generation costs.

Prof. Dr Marco JungThe field of photovoltaics has been subject to enormous price pressure for many years, as falling feed-in tariffs worldwide make low component prices necessary to be able to manufacture and operate a PV system economically. At the same time, the demands on the functional diversity of the devices continue to increase (e.g. universal use in PV and battery applications, grid feeding, self-consumption and island operation, provision of grid services).

Prof. Dr Marco JungMore and more companies are shifting their business models to the Internet and using digital ecosystems as platforms. The COVID 19 pandemic has further strengthened this trend. However, data protection is perceived by many companies as a brake on innovation because there is a lack of knowledge and tools to implement the legal requirements correctly. The D'accord research project is therefore developing a so-called data protection cockpit.

Prof. Dr Luigi Lo IaconoThe E365 Maverick project is a research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), which is being carried out as part of a cooperation between Bechtle AG and Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. It is embedded in the overarching initiative "National Education Platform" of the BMBF.

Prof. Dr Iris GroßETN e.V., together with IZNE and the Biological Station Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, is carrying out a project entitled "Vernetztes Rainland". Within the framework of this project, suitable areas in municipal ownership are to be made available for insect protection in cooperation with representatives of agriculture, the municipalities and other relevant stakeholders, and suitable subsidies for the maintenance of the Raine are to be offered to the users if required.

Prof. Dr Wiltrud TerlauIn modern society, plastic packaging fulfills important functions for consumers and industry and is indispensable in everyday life: easy and inexpensive to produce in large quantities, it significantly simplifies handling during transport and storage and extends the shelf life of food up to three times.

Prof. Dr Christian Dresbach Dr Esther van DorpWhat cannot be cured must be learned to endure. Researchers, however, are trying to change this fact and are looking for new treatments for a variety of different diseases. One example is large, so-called "critical size" bone injuries that cannot heal during a person's lifetime without extensive surgery. One approach to changing this is to use mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which have shown great potential for treating such conditions. They can differentiate into bone cells and additionally release therapeutic factors. However, in certain circumstances, they are limited in quantity and cannot maintain their capabilities under prolonged laboratory culture. Recently, the discovery of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), for which the Nobel Prize was awarded in 2012, offered a new approach. These cells can be generated on-demand in the laboratory to become mesenchymal stem cells (iMSCs), providing a potential alternative technique. iMSCs have similarities to MSCs, but little is yet known about them. In her PhD project, Sarah Shoushrah wants to find out how effective iMSCs are compared to MSCs for future applications in bone repair.
Four universities in North Rhine-Westphalia have joined forces to establish the "Games Technology Network" (GTN). The Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS) has taken on the coordination. Its partners are RWTH Aachen University, Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and Cologne University of Technology. The project is initially scheduled to run for two years and is supported by the NRW Future Fund. The declared aim of the new alliance is to build up a network of research institutions and industrial companies that will promote gaming technology and thus benefit NRW as a business location.

Prof. Dr André HinkenjannWire or ribbon connections made of aluminum are usually used to transmit electrical power in control units and power electronics modules. Since the connection points of the wires and ribbons are usually located on substrates made of different materials and the components are frequently exposed to external temperature differences, cracks can form in the material during operation and lead to complete failure of the component, which cannot be remedied by simple design modifications.
