The exchange program

Studying at the University of Aberdeen offers the possibility of obtaining a Bachelor of Honours (BSc Hons) degree for a two-semester stay. The exchange program consists of courses taught for 3 months of which two are optional followed by a Honours project for 9 weeks in one of the research groups. Thereby basic skills in theory and practice are strengthened and prepare the students for any subsequent occupation. The program is rather ambitious, therefore only students with a good record should consider applying.

The degree

Five different degrees (all BSc Hons) are available, allowing students to specialize in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Immunology or Molecular Microbiology.

To qualify for the exchange program with University of Aberdeen you have to ...

have passed all modules and courses of the first and second semester successfully with a GPA < 1.75 and have passed our English courses or were considered fluent enough to choose a different language. The final admission is based on your performance during the 3rd and 4th semester!

University facts

The University of Aberdeen is a well established and worldwide respected university with a history dating back to the 15th century.  Biological sciences are taught at the Institute of Medical Science (IMS) which is situated at Foresterhill site around the university hospital. The IMS comprises numerous laboratories and has access to a wide range of research technologies. Events such as weekly seminars given by scientists from various universities offer to explore different research fields and new developments in science.

Things to consider

  • Teaching is in English.
  • University of Aberdeen accepts 10 students, given that at time of application (November each year) their GPA is lower than or equal to 1.75.
  • There are tuition fees. Over the last years a fee-waiver has been given to our students, you are, however, not automatically entitled to that.
