Delegation from Nantong University visits H-BRS

Montag, 20. Mai 2019

During a one-week trip to Germany, a delegation from Nantong University in China also visited Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, University of Applied Sciences. Nantong University in Jiangsu Province, the Chinese partner province of NRW, was the first foreign university with which Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences concluded a partnership in 1997.

In the first years of the cooperation, graduates of the Chinese partner university successfully took part in the master's programmes in the computer science faculty, having already become acquainted with project work in this faculty as bachelor students. German students were also involved in project work at the partner university. In recent years, however, the number of exchanges had declined sharply. Today, over 35,000 students are enrolled at Nantong University, which emerged from the former Technical University of Nantong and is very close to Shanghai. In China, the university ranks 116th out of more than 3000 universities.

The Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity, Prof. Jürgen Bode, welcomed the delegation under the leadership of the Vice President of Nantong University, Prof. Jiang Naihua, and gave a brief overview of the university. He placed particular emphasis on the practical orientation of teaching and research at a university of applied sciences. He also presented the Chinese-German double degree programme with Hunan University. The Chinese guests were particularly interested in the study programmes of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Technical Journalism as well as the Department of Management Sciences, which were presented by Prof. Alejandro Valenzuela and Prof. Ralf Mayer.

The fact that the University of Nantong has now also established English-taught study programmes in International Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering gives rise to legitimate hopes for a more intensive exchange of students in the future. The Chinese guests promised to provide further information about their offers for exchange students and were open for those interested in an exchange semester at Nantong University.
